Guest at Memuaris blog: Interview

Some time ago I was asked to be a guest designer for Memuaris blog. I was happy to be a guest in a blog series that introduces different scrapbooking styles and designers. The Memuaris design team also "scraplifted" one of my layouts and the results are beautiful! You can see the blog post here.

The fun part of this guest task was the interview. I thought it would be nice to share the interview here on my blog too! Here it is:

Why do you make pages? Is it to keep memories or to play with pretty papers or both?

To me scrapbooking combines photographing, creativity and memory-keeping perfectly. I enjoy playing with pretty papers and embellishments but the memory-keeping aspect is also important to me. It’s so easy to forget the photos on your computer so I love that scrapbooking makes me print all those photos and document the memories.

How do you usually start - with photos, papers, a color scheme or some idea? What is usually the base of your page?

I’m a product and photo driven scrapbooker. I can easily find the inspiration from the pretty papers or other scrapbooking products. To me it’s always important to match the products that I use with the photo and its colors.

Do you prefer colour or black and white photos?

I almost always use color photos.

What are your staples, what do you pull out from your stash first?

White cardstock, pattern paper, stickers and diecuts.

Do you have a favourite colour or a go to colour combo?

I love bright and fresh colors that I can combine with white. Muted colors are not for me.

Do you journal on your pages? If yes at what stage do you think about your journaling, is it a part of the design?

One of my goals for 2016 is journal more on my pages. Lately I have felt that I need to write more. Also design wise journaling is often a nice final touch!

How much time does it usually take to make one page?

I’m a quite quick scrapbooker, normally it takes 30 minutes to 1 hour to create a layout. When I have a nice photo and inspiring products, creating a layout is easy.

When do you consider your page finished?

That’s hard to say. When I think the layout could be ready I take a photo of it on my phone. Sometimes seeing the photo of the layout helps me to see if I need to add something more or if the layout is already finished.

What elements do you consider your style? What is it that distinguishes your work? How would you characterize your style?

All of my layouts have white space which means that my layouts aren’t fully packed with photos and/or products. I try to keep my designs fresh, clean and simple.

What latest trends you like or dislike in scrapbooking? Would you use something just because it's trendy?
I’m not sure what I think about the planner trend. I have a planner myself but it’s mainly for my work. Lately I’ve been seeing some traveler’s notebooks and some super cute covers for them. I just ordered one to see if that might be a planner of my style!
